The student missions program at Palm Beach Atlantic University raised a total $92,418, more than double the amount from the previous year, through Birdies for Children, a partnership with the Honda Classic golf tournament.
Birdies for Children raises money for charities, which receive 100 percent of the proceeds donated online plus a 10 percent matching donation courtesy of BIOMET 3i, presenting sponsor of Birdies for Children.
PBA donors contributed $84,017 earning a matching donation of $8,401. Last year, the first year in which PBA participated in Birdies for Children, PBA donors contributed $33,790, earning a matching donation of $3,379.
The money will be used to help send students on mission trips around the world. During the spring, more than 90 PBA students traveled to such places as Bolivia, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras and Jamaica.
This summer, students are slated to travel to Asia, the Great Lakes region, South Africa, Swaziland, Sweden, South Asia and the United Kingdom.
