State Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto, R-Ft. Myers, has been named Majority Leader of the Florida Senate. A Palm Beach Atlantic University alumna, she has served in the state Senate since 2010 and became the deputy majority leader in 2011.
“Her previous experiences in local government and in the private sector, as well as her reputation for building consensus in the Florida Senate, make Senator Benacquisto a natural choice for this important position,” Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Destin, wrote in a memorandum announcing the appointment.
Sen. Benacquisto previously served as councilwoman for the Village of Wellington from 2002 to 2010. During her tenure, the mother of three earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from PBA’s MacArthur School of Leadership in 2009.
