Leaders in Real Estate, Starbucks Corp. to Receive Honor

Two respected leaders in their fields, Connie Cooper Shepherd and Donald K. DeWoody, Jr., will be honored with companion medals during Palm Beach Atlantic University’s American Free Enterprise Day ceremony Nov. 8.

American Free Enterprise Day has been an event at Palm Beach Atlantic since 1984 and honors individuals whose hard work and achievement exemplify the best of the American Free enterprise system.

Connie Cooper Shepherd is senior vice president of North America Channel Business Development for the Starbucks Company. She is responsible for developing the long-term vision and strategic plan for Food, Drug, Club, Food Service, Specialty and Licensed Store Channels, as well as building out new capabilities to ensure a world-class Business Development Organization. Shepherd is accountable for leading and developing 450 partners and more than $2 billion in revenue.

Prior to joining Starbucks in March 2012, she served as vice president, Food Channels, for The Hershey Company. In this role, Shepherd was responsible for leading Hershey’s U.S. Food, Artisan and Military selling organizations, totaling more than $1.6 billion in gross sales. In addition, she was accountable for the development of 86 direct sales personnel, as well as a full multi-functional team.

Before joining The Hershey Company, she was a vice president with Kellogg’s. She began her career at Procter & Gamble, where she worked for 15 years in sales and marketing.

Shortly after graduating from college in 1988 with a degree in real estate, Donald K. DeWoody, Jr. founded his first brokerage company. The business has since added partners, undergone a few name changes and expanded into a regional brokerage firm with more than 30 employees. WGCompass Realty Companies provides a full scope of commercial real estate services for institutional, corporate and individual clients with corporate business spanning more than a dozen counties in Florida.

DeWoody has extensive experience in commercial brokerage and consulting and earned the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation from the CCIM Institute in 1997. As a consultant, he has assisted numerous public and private companies in the disposition of commercial sites and the evaluation and negotiation of potential sites for lease or purchase.

DeWoody previously worked as a commercial real estate appraiser for Palm Beach County’s largest appraisal firm, Callaway & Price Inc. In 1995, he earned the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute, the most desired designation in the commercial appraisal industry.

Shepherd and DeWoody will be honored at the same ceremony Brian P. Burns, chairman of San Francisco-based BF Enterprises Inc. and a nationally recognized business attorney, entrepreneur and philanthropist.
