Dr. Kathleen Anderson is a recipient of the Charles and Hazel Corts Award for Outstanding Teaching and has taught at PBA since 1996. Her nonfiction book, Jane Austen’s Guide to Thrift, co-authored with Dr. Susan Jones, was published by Berkley Books in 2013. Dr. Anderson’s scholarly study of Austen’s women is near completion. She was honored to be selected as the Jane Austen Scholar-in-Residence by Goucher College for spring, 2016.
Dr. Anderson has published numerous essays in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, such as Persuasions: The Jane Austen Journal, Persuasions On-Line, Women’s Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal, European Romantic Review, Victorian Poetry, Sensibilities, Renascence, and others. Her nonfiction essays have appeared in such eclectic venues as The Huffington Post, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Christianity Today, Commonweal, Teen Magazine, and the collection, Unrooted Childhoods: Memoirs of Growing Up Global.
In addition, Dr. Anderson’s collaboration with students and alumni on research and writing projects has resulted in co-authored publications in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, including Victorians: A Journal of Culture and Literature, The Gaskell Journal, Persuasions: The Jane Austen Journal, Persuasions On-Line, Sensibilities, and Brontë Studies. Students also serve as research and editorial assistants on her manuscript projects.
Dr. Anderson has delivered several keynote addresses at professional conferences, and has been a peer reviewer for Tulsa Studies in Women’s Literature and Brontë Studies. She served two terms on the Board of Directors of The Jane Austen Society of North America, and was a judge of its international essay contest for nearly a decade. Dr. Anderson provides pro bono lectures to local organizations and has participated in many service projects with students to benefit the community.
