“Fashion Sense and Sensibili-Tea” was the theme of the Palm Beach Atlantic University Alumni Association’s 2014 Afternoon Tea and Silent Auction, held May 3 at The Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens. The tea raised $21,500 for scholarships, setting a new fund-raising record for the event. The tea raised $21,500 for scholarships, setting a new fund-raising record for the event.

Major sponsors of the event included XquisiteHeirlooms7, Pandora Gardens Mall, Mary Hammond and Holiday Inn Palm Beach Airport among others. Palm Beach Society Magazine and Sun-Sentinel were the media sponsors.

Palm Beach Atlantic University professors of English Dr. Kathleen Anderson and Dr. Lee Prescott spoke about elegant living on a budget. They also shared insights from Dr. Anderson’s book, “Jane Austen’s Guide to Thrift,” which she co-authored with Professor of English Dr. Susan Jones. The presentation included a vintage fashion show featuring Palm Beach Atlantic University students as models.

The afternoon included a silent auction, and Pandora provided raffle prizes and awards for the best Kentucky Derby-themed attire. Veteran television news anchor Chandra Bill-Rabenecker, a member of the University’s Board of Trustees, served as emcee.

Natalie Alvarez, vice president, First Southern Bank, was chair of the event committee with co-chair Janie Fogt, special projects coordinator, The Palm Beach Post. Members included Mary Hammond, Deborah Bowmar-Jaffe, Shae Johnson, Yalonda Moring Meckstroth, Claudia Moore, Terri Cunningham-Rose, Gina Sabean, Rebecca Weiss, Geanine Wester and Annah Wolf.
